Connecting Hearts Adoption Conference

Connecting Hearts Adoption Conference

Benefit/Fundraiser, For the Family, Class/Workshop
An upcoming adoption conference will feature discussions, panels, speakers, and resource networking to allow those in the adoption community to share their story, as well as to help those interested in adopting gain access to helpful connections to proceed. It is being organized by College Place High School senior, Hannah Rickords. In searching to find the perfect senior project, she wanted to do something that she was passionate about. As an adoptee, she decided to host an adoption conference this upcoming spring to raise awareness and education about adoption, as well as offer a place for those involved in the adoption community to share their positive experiences. As an adoptee, Hannah feels a strong urge to share her own story and thinks it is important that others involved are offered the opportunity to share theirs as well. The conference will be held on April 14, 2018 at Courtyard by Marriott Walla Walla. The conference will include birth parents, adoptive parents, adoptees, and other members of the adoption community as presenters. There will be a panel comprised of birthmothers coming from Idaho, Utah and Washington who will answer questions from attendees regarding their personal experience with adoption. In addition, there will be breakout classes for hopeful adoptive parents to gather information about the financial aspects and resources surrounding adoption. A second breakout class will be offered and led by adoptive parents from Washington and Idaho who will discuss how to have healthy relationships with biological and adoptive families. A third breakout class will be led by Lynea Krukiewicz, a Utah based birthmother who will teach how to run a birthparent support group and provide a real-time support group simulation using her experience as founder of birth parent support organization, Life After Placement. Megan Bryant, the keynote speaker, is a birth mother from Boise, Idaho. She is a comedian, an award-winning author of Not My Plan, a book about her adoption experience. She is also the founder of a corporate improv training company ZipZapZop. Tickets are on sale now at at $40 a piece. The fee covers admission as well as a catered lunch. A portion of ticket sales will be donated to an adoption care program to be determined nearer to the date of the conference. More information can be found on the official conference Facebook page, which can be searched for as “Connecting Hearts Adoption Conference.” Updates on event details will be posted leading up to the date.
