Free Screening of "The C Word" Documentary

Free Screening of "The C Word" Documentary

Health & Wellness/Nutrition
Northwest Cancer Clinic is hosting a screening of the transformative documentary “The C Word” on August 31, 2017 from 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. to raise awareness for some of the latest advances in cancer diagnosis and treatment. The event is free to the community and will be held at the Uptown Theatre in Richland, located at 1300 Jadwin Ave., Richland, WA 99354. “The C Word” details the current state of cancer treatment through two survivor stories: one from French neuroscientist David Servan-Schreiber, M.D., the other from the movie’s director Meghan L. O’Hara. Dr. Servan-Schreiber and Meghan explore habits that predispose us to disease, including nutrition, exercise, stress management and avoiding toxins, known as the anti-cancer lifestyle. Northwest Cancer Clinic medical director, Brian Lawenda, M.D., a Board Certified Radiation Oncologist and Integrative Oncologist, is a local pioneering force in promoting an anti-cancer lifestyle to help reduce risk of the disease and help prevent recurrence. He will be hosting a question and answer session after the screening. “‘The C Word’ movie provides detailed insight into proven complementary therapies along with conventional therapies like radiation and chemotherapy,” says Dr. Lawenda. “In addition, the movie helps filter out the never-ending studies on what may potentially cause cancer, and focuses on proven science.” The movie explores themes of how obesity, sleeping less, consuming unhealthy foods and a sedentary environment can make your body more conducive to cancer. Small lifestyle changes like increasing your activity a little and eating better can help improve overall health. The event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be provided.
