White Bluffs Quilt Museum has just installed a new exhibit on Drop Spindles. These simple little devices have been in use for 10,000 years to spin thread and yarn from animal and plant sources. The Museum has a nice variety of Spindles ranging from the exotic Turkish Spindle to the humble handmade spindle. A reception to introduce the new exhibit will be on Saturday, March 2 at 11:30. A brochure explains the history and lore of Drop Spindles. Demonstrations are planned.

This is a great exhibit -- with a bit of history. If you ever wondereed how wool from animals or fiber from plants ends up as yarn, thread and fabric -- this is the place to go. They not only have the drop spindles, but some great spinning wheels and an amazing collection of roving ready to spin.
